Graphic Designer
Method Creative - Toronto, ON
- Contract
- Intermediate/Senior
- Hybrid
General description
6-month contract, possible extension.
We need an intermediate graphic designer who takes the craft seriously. Not someone who gets work to "good enough" and ships it. Someone who looks at a composition and sees what's still wrong with it. Someone who cares about the kerning, the colour values, the weight of a line, the way a layout breathes.
The agency's visual output is getting more demanding. You'll be the person driving that.
You'll work from strategy and account direction to bring concepts to life. You'll lead your own creative directions when the brief calls for it. The workload is real and immediate. You're not easing in for a month. You're in it on day one.
The work is client-facing. How you present and defend your thinking in a room matters.
Job responsibilities
- Design across brand identity, campaigns, digital assets, and presentations
- Turn strategy and account direction into visual concepts worth presenting
- Lead creative concepting when the project calls for it
- Present and defend work directly with clients
- Own your output: files, revisions, quality, without being chased
- Work across formats: digital, print, environmental, decks
The Craft
This is the part that matters most. We're not looking for someone with a strong personal aesthetic. We're looking for a chameleon. Someone who disappears into the brief, serves the work, and makes every project look like it was designed by exactly the right person for that client.
That takes two things: real technical mastery and an obsessive eye. You notice what most designers scroll past. A slightly-off baseline. A colour that's close but not quite right. A hierarchy that almost works. You fix it before anyone asks.
The bar is simple: would this make a senior creative director stop scrolling? If not, it's not done.
Qualifications
Skills
- Expert-level Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Both. Which one you reach for first tells us something.
- Illustrator-first designers build from scratch. That's what we need here.
- Solid working knowledge of the full Adobe Creative Suite
- Figma and After Effects are a genuine asset, not a dealbreaker if you're lighter on them
- Typography, colour, layout, and composition at a level that doesn't need correcting after the fact
How you work
- Brief-first. You nail what was asked before you start doing your own thing.
- Once the brief is nailed? Push it. We want that.
- You sweat the details, not as a quirk, but because you know that's where quality lives
- Self-directed. You need to be pointed, not managed.
- Comfortable presenting and talking about your work with clients
- Collaborative without being dependent
What we are not looking for
- Designers who go off-brief before the brief is done
- AI-first workflows where the thinking gets outsourced to a prompt
- We use AI as a tool. The craft and the thinking still have to be yours.
- Anyone who needs hand-holding through a standard client project
- People who coast when the subject matter isn't exciting
- Designers who mistake "done" for "good"
Salary Range
$38,500
