Fraudulent Job Posting Policy

Purpose and scope

The RGD Job Board exists to connect designers with legitimate employment opportunities. The RGD is committed to maintaining a safe, professional and trustworthy Job Board for both job seekers and employers. This policy outlines how the RGD defines fraudulent or suspicious job postings, how users can report concerns and how the RGD will respond to such reports.

This policy applies to all job postings published at rgd.ca/jobs, including listings submitted by employers, recruitment agencies and third-party platforms.

What counts as a fraudulent or suspicious job posting

For the purposes of this policy, a job posting may be considered fraudulent or suspicious if it includes one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Requests for sensitive personal information, such as banking details, SIN or copies of government-issued ID at an early stage of recruitment.
  • Asks applicants to pay fees in order to apply, secure an interview or be considered for a role.
  • Uses misleading job titles, descriptions or employer information that does not accurately reflect the nature of the work.
  • Claims affiliation with reputable organizations without evidence or verification.
  • Promises unusually high compensation with little or no experience required.
  • Contains poor-quality, vague or inconsistent information about the role, employer or recruitment process.
  • Redirects applicants to external websites that appear suspicious or unrelated to the employer.

This list is not exhaustive. The RGD reserves the right to assess any job posting that raises reasonable concerns, even if it does not fall neatly into one of the categories above.

How to report a suspicious job posting

If you believe that a job posting on the RGD Job Board may be fraudulent, misleading or suspicious, please report it to the RGD immediately by emailing execdir@rgd.ca

All reports will be treated seriously and reviewed in a timely manner.

How we will respond

Upon receiving a report of a potentially fraudulent job posting, the RGD may take one or more of the following actions:

  • Temporarily remove or hide the job posting while it is reviewed.
  • Contact the employer or recruiter for clarification or additional information.
  • Request evidence to verify the legitimacy of the role or organization.
  • Reinstate the posting if concerns are resolved satisfactorily.
  • Permanently remove the posting if it is determined to be fraudulent or misleading.
  • Ban the employer or recruiter from posting future listings if there is clear evidence of misconduct.
  • The RGD will aim to balance the protection of jobseekers with fairness to legitimate employers throughout this process.
