Creative/Graphic Designer

The Ontario Construction Secretariat (OCS) is seeking a highly creative, detail-oriented and self-motivated Creative/Graphic Designer to support the organization’s communications graphics, branding and stakeholder engagement initiatives. The Creative/Graphic Designer is responsible for developing innovative visual content, digital media and creative campaigns that promote the advancement of Ontario’s unionized industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI) construction sector.

This role requires an individual with strong graphic design, digital media and project management skills, as well as the ability to translate complex industry information into compelling visual storytelling across a variety of platforms and mediums. The successful candidate will lead the development and execution of creative assets for publications, presentations, websites, social media campaigns, events and stakeholder engagement initiatives while ensuring consistency with OCS branding and strategic objectives. Frequent collaboration with OCS staff and external vendors is essential to ensure the effectiveness and quality of all creative outputs.

Job responsibilities

Creative Design & Brand Development

  • Develop innovative and engaging visual concepts, graphics, layouts and creative assets to support OCS initiatives, campaigns and stakeholder communications.
  • Design and produce a wide range of branded materials including reports, presentations, brochures, infographics, advertisements, event materials, promotional products, newsletters and digital publications.
  • Maintain and enhance OCS’s visual identity and branding standards across all communication and marketing materials.
  • Ensure all creative products are accurate, professional, visually engaging and aligned with OCS strategic objectives.
  • Support the development of visual storytelling initiatives that promote the unionized ICI construction sector in Ontario.

Digital Media & Website Management

Working in cooperation with the Communications & Engagement Lead;

  • Update, develop and maintain OCS websites and digital platforms, ensuring content remains current, functional, visually appealing and user-friendly.
  • Create and manage digital content for social media platforms including LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter and YouTube.
  • Develop creative assets for social media campaigns, digital advertising, stakeholder outreach and event promotion.
  • Monitor digital engagement trends, analytics and platform performance to support ongoing communications and marketing strategies.
  • Support search engine optimization (SEO) and website enhancement initiatives to improve visibility and user engagement.

Multimedia Production

  • Lead photography, videography and video editing projects to support OCS campaigns, industry events, research promotion and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Develop multimedia content, including short-form videos, motion graphics, animations and digital presentations.
  • Coordinate production requirements with external vendors, printers, photographers, videographers and creative consultants as required.

Project Leadership & Coordination

  • Lead assigned creative and design projects from concept to completion, including establishing timelines, deliverables and production schedules.
  • Coordinate the timely production and distribution of creative materials for OCS initiatives, campaigns, events and reports.
  • Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to deadlines.
  • Provide regular project updates and creative recommendations to senior leadership.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with OCS staff, consultants and industry partners to identify creative needs that complement communication products.
  • Attend industry events and stakeholder meetings to capture content, support engagement initiatives and strengthen industry relationships.

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of OCS communications, marketing and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging trends, technologies and best practices in graphic design, digital media, branding and social media communications.
  • Identify opportunities to improve creative processes, workflows, digital platforms and audience engagement strategies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the strategic objectives of OCS.

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree or College diploma in Graphic Design, Digital Media, Communications, Marketing, or a related discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum of three years of experience in graphic design, digital media, branding, or creative communications.
  • Experience managing creative projects across print, digital, and multimedia platforms.
  • Experience within the construction industry, association sector, or unionized ICI construction environment is considered an asset.
  • Experience using AI-assisted creative and design platforms is considered an asset.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • Exceptional graphic design and visual storytelling skills with strong attention to detail and creativity.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and related creative software.
  • Proficiency with website content management systems such as WordPress and Squarespace.
  • Strong photography, videography, and video editing capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing strategies, analytics tools, and SEO best practices from a graphic design perspective.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to translate complex concepts into compelling visual materials.
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team to support the OCS mandate and strategic plan.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and presentation development.

Working conditions

  • Based at the OCS office located in the Greater Toronto Area.
  • Occasional travel within Ontario may be required to support stakeholder engagement activities, industry events, and content development.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings or weekends to support OCS events and initiatives as needed.

Salary range

$55,000 - $65,000
