Judith Lacerte RGD

An award-winning Art Director and Designer with over 15 years of experience shaping visual storytelling across studio, freelance, and in-house roles. With a background in both fine arts and design, I bring a hands-on, craft-driven approach to everything I create—from editorial layouts and branding to multimedia content across print and digital platforms. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with a wide range of clients in higher education, hospitality, luxury travel, corporate communications, and the not-for-profit sector. My journey includes creative leadership at Universities Canada and University Affairs magazine, where I led editorial design, branding, and marketing communications that engaged bilingual audiences and strengthened sector-wide narratives. In studio settings, I developed concepts and executed designs for organizations such as Butterfield & Robinson, the National Arts Centre, and Canada Post, consistently delivering thoughtful, strategic visual solutions. I’m passionate about crafting rich, balanced bilingual content, with deep respect for the nuances and cultural subtleties that help stories connect. As a Certified member of the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD), I remain committed to excellence in design, accessibility, and collaboration. My work has been recognized with numerous National Magazine Awards, honours from the Society of Publication Designers Awards (SPD), and RGD accolades.

I know a lot about...

“With a background rooted in editorial design, I approach every project through an editorial lens, shaping stories with intention and detail. Close collaboration with writers, editors, illustrators, and photographers, combined with a human-centred mindset and hands-on craft, ensures every detail connects. Clarity, rhythm, and purpose guide my work.”

I'm thinking a lot about...

“Designing more intuitively for bilingual content—how to create balance without sacrificing clarity, rhythm, or tone. Working in English and French means navigating different lengths, typographic nuances, and cultural cues. It’s a puzzle I love solving: building systems that flex, communicate clearly in both languages, and feel visually cohesive.”

My favourite RGD memory is..

“Connecting with colleagues at DesignThinkers—such as the team from Underline Studio, creative partners I collaborated with for over a decade—was a meaningful moment of in-person connection after years of working together remotely. It was a great reminder of how RGD events bring the design community together across cities.”
