As Good As New

Matt Luckhurst

About this video

Description

In a hot and hyper world, is design capable of delivering concise, informed and relevant creative solutions that can actually cut through? When people are overstimulated and more fractured than ever, is it possible that taste — of all things — may be what can save us from a society of mediocrity and misinformation? Matt takes a candid look at 6+ years of work at NewCo, exploring how the firm’s work and design philosophy has evolved to make things people care about in an ever-changing world. Will this talk deliver a message of hope and a vision for the future? Or will it be the cynical ramblings of a middle-aged graphic designer? We’re not sure yet, but either way, he’ll tell some thought-provoking stories and show some beautiful work.

Matt founded the NewCo in 2018 with the philosophy that brand relevance is driven through NEW and novel ideas. Today, the company works across offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles with a range of global clients including Nike, EA Sports, lululemon, Ralph Lauren and the Utah Jazz. Matt works in a multitude of positions in the company — strategist, marketer, pitchman, design leader — but the foundation of all that work comes from his design background. His education began in 2014, where he received his bachelor's degree in design from the Alberta College of Art and Design, before moving to New York to pursue a Master's Degree from SVA's Designer as Author Program. Born in Vancouver, he now lives in the Bay Area with his wife and two kids.
