Gil Martinez RGD

With over two decades of experience spanning diverse roles in art direction, design, and education, I am a seasoned creative professional fluent in English and Spanish. As a Judge at the National Magazine Awards since Spring 2017, I meticulously evaluate design and editorial submissions, demonstrating my discerning eye across consumer and business-to-business publications. Currently, I hold the positions of Professor at Centennial College and Art Director at Newcom Media, where I impart knowledge to budding designers and steer the visual direction of print and web products. My expertise extends to previous roles at TC Media, Rogers Media, and beyond, where I've shaped the visual identities of prominent publications and events. Alongside my professional endeavors, I engage with the design community through active participation in organizations like RGD and contribute pro-bono design services to charitable causes. With mastery in Adobe Creative Suite and a knack for engaging writing, I bring a wealth of creativity and expertise to any project or team.

Skills

I'm an RGD Member because...

“I advocate for certifying our profession to combat unethical practices like Spec work. Certification elevates design value, fosters design thinking, and empowers designers with tools to stay current, ensuring industry accountability.”

You should hire me because...

“I have over 20 years of diverse experience in art direction, design education, and community engagement and offer a unique blend of expertise and passion. My commitment to excellence, coupled with proficiency in current design software and full bilingual proficiency, makes me a valuable asset to any team.”

The best advice I've ever received is...

“To do anything that takes three minutes or less immediately instead of deferring it.”
