Winning Project: Liminal
Award Sponsor: 52 Pick-up; School: George Brown College, Toronto, ON; Educator Support: Paul Haslip
Liminal is designed for imaginative, open-minded individuals who value creativity, curiosity and real-world connection. This audience is drawn to meaningful experiences and willing to unplug in pursuit of the unexpected. Liminal reimagines the 1960s Happenings as live, unscripted events shaped by the people who attend. Participation is everything—be there or miss it. The name refers to a transitional moment, between disconnection and presence, everyday life and the unknown.

The project begins with a teaser video that quietly appears on social feeds, followed days later by three oversized newspapers delivered to participants’ doors. Each newspaper offers a glimpse of what’s to come and is paired with a vinyl pressing of John Cage’s 4'33", acting as a key to mindset rather than event. Inspired by Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Peter and Wendy, the identity combines literary quotes with original imagery to evoke memories that feel both personal and universal.
