Woven in Colour is designed for people interested in linguistics, cultural understanding and language preservation, particularly those with no prior knowledge of linguistic theory. The project simplifies a complex concept into an engaging, interactive editorial experience that connects readers through hands-on participation. Rooted in linguistic relativity, it explores how language shapes perception of colour, using Berlin and Kay’s theory of colour term evolution.

The book is structured in stages: beginning in black and white and gradually unfolding into twelve colours as each chapter introduces a new language. Paper weaving is the central interactive element, symbolizing how language and culture intertwine and evolve. Each language is paired with a weaving pattern inspired by its cultural context, supported by a companion book of pre-cut strips and instructions. French folds feature monochromatic weavings, while a hand-woven cover mirrors conceptual progression. Indented lines, paper-square chapter numbers and fragmented imagery extend the woven design system.
