Kolm Brand Identity
Integrated Award — Brand Identity, New Brand

Bruce Mau Design
Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Kolm, a multisensory hot-cold therapy studio based in Vancouver, engaged Bruce Mau Design to develop a full brand identity system ahead of its launch. This included naming, brand strategy, voice, messaging and visual identity. The goal was to communicate the science behind contrast therapy while embracing its more intangible, emotional benefits.

The name Kolm, meaning “three” in Estonian, was selected as a reference to the ritual of heat, cold and rest, while nodding to the founder’s heritage. A confident wordmark, with custom letterforms inspired by Vancouver’s Twin Sisters mountains, echoes Kolm’s Pacific Northwest origins. To visualize contrast, the team used a specialized thermal imaging camera to create brand elements that ride the line between texture, graphic and image. Each image accurately captures the experience by showing how heat and cold affect bodies, objects and environments. The brand voice embodies this duality—drawing people into a place where calm is found in discomfort. The result is a cohesive identity that establishes Kolm as a distinctive presence in the wellness space. The flexibility of the design system provides the tools for consistency while enabling the brand to evolve and grow into the future.
