Be Prepared For Emergency Information Kit

The Be Prepared Emergency Information Kit was created by Bruce Power to send out to residents within 10 km of its nuclear generating stations. The kit contained potassium iodide pills, a nuclear emergency preparedness pamphlet, emergency preparedness booklet, return envelope for old pills and a pen. Flash Reproductions, the printer used for the project, was engaged from the start to create the custom boxes and coordinate the logistics of the mail out.

Bruce Power determined they would need an inner box to house all the contents that a resident could keep, as well as a protective outer cardboard box for mailing. Several prototypes were developed before landing on a solution that securely held the material. The final package used a series of illustrations depicting items needed during all types of emergencies, such as a flashlight, medication, extra water and important documents. These illustrations were used throughout the material within the package to create a friendly tone, while pulling from the Bruce Power corporate colour palette. All the pieces fit neatly into the package, including the pen, which had a custom die cut notch beside text that read, “Make a plan. Write it down!”
