Rod looks back at 110 years of the ever-popular grotesque genre and how he used the Monotype archives and other historical sources to develop a typeface for the 21st century. He shows what he brought forward, and what he didn't; and he talks about a few of the surprising things he learned about early 20th century sans serifs during the development of the Classic Grotesque family.
