Designing for a Global Audience: Understanding cultural nuances in typography

Location: Bow Valley College, South Campus

This workshop examines the cultural nuances of writing systems and their role in global typography. Participants will learn to match typographic expression across several writing systems while respecting differing writing tools, reading habits and classification differences.

Materials:
- Each participant must bring a laptop (not a tablet) with Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Indesign installed.
- Printed deck, pencils and erasers will be provided.

About the presenter
Eleni Beveratou is a typeface designer from Athens, Greece. While working toward her MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading, she developed an interest in the science of reading for the partially sighted. Her research and findings were published in Digital Fonts and Reading by World Scientific. At Dalton Maag, Eleni has worked on projects with brands such as Airbnb, Oracle and Facebook.
