Awake Studio brings 70s nostalgia to Revival Records branding
Written by David Taylor RGD, Awake StudioContext
Christopher Peyton of “X Factor UK” fame approached Awake to create an identity for the house music label Revival Records, which he was about to launch. He pretty much had us immediately but when he added that he and his team had just recorded the first handful of tracks at the legendary Abbey Road studio, it was cemented.
Seeing the behind-the-scene photos of the recording session at Abbey Road were a definite highlight of this project. If only we were able to be there in person.
Methology
The label needed to have a vintage vibe, channeling a bit of 70s love while maintaining a contemporary feel at the same time. The nostalgic avocado green that was a ubiquitous 70s kitchen design staple rooted the design in the past while the typographic elements create a sense of modernity and relevance. The double “R” symbol presents a mirror image that is right at home in the centre label of a record as it’s never upside-down and creates a visual feast for the eyes when spinning at full speed.
Result
As the label is *just* being launched. The results with the house music-loving public are yet to be determined but we're feeling like this branding will resonate with this audience.
