Melanie is an award-winning senior graphic designer, brand strategist and certified RGD. With over 10 years working as an in-house designer, she has worked on projects that range from brand systems, packaging, and event design to creating graphics for JEDI and DIB initiatives. She is passionate about collaborating with other designers and subject-matter experts, learning from different perspectives and integrating accessible and sustainable features into her work. The intersection of conceptual design, inclusivity and sustainability is her happy place. The ultimate inspirations for her designs consist of music, travel, history and thesauruses. Her design skills include illustration, layout, typesetting and concept development. Her outdated skills include changing typewriter ribbons, making killer mixtapes and using wax seals.

In May of 2022, Maryze, a bilingual singer-songwriter based in Montreal, released their debut full-length album, 8. After meeting with Maryze, seeing her influences and the meaning behind the album, it was established that a dark and lush approach would be taken. Over the span of a month the album artwork, CD graphics and merch were created.

HOOKED ON PHONO IDENTITY AND ILLUSTRATIONS

Hooked on Phono is an independently-owned record shop in Burnaby Heights. What began as a branding project in 2017, developed into a series of illustration and design projects applied to clothing, stickers and records. The character illustrations and custom lettering are united through a simple colour scheme, quirky style and hand-drawn flourish.
