Give It All You’ve Got

Rob Lowe

About this video

Description

In a time of instant slickness and veneer-thin generated graphics, we need more depth, more surprises. Layering of meaning (hidden and overt), multiple influences, nonsensical nuance, giving it all you have got; clashing styles and interests; inside jokes, esoterica; personal joys, contagious enthusiasm; ravaging your past for forgotten treasure; willfully throwing yourself into the amateur; making the unpredictable, which even you don’t fully understand; being open to serendipity, open to changes in direction. Everything doesn’t have to be for everyone. A return to being excited by detail, differences. Making for small audiences. Making it personal. Making it for yourself. Reclaiming oddity as a radical act with purpose. Trusting in the sophistication of people to understand. And layers. Layers, layers, layers!

Rob Lowe

Rob (also known as Supermundane) uses instinctive geometry, relatable humanism, humour and his hyper-colourful imagination to play with optical effects and the meaning of words. He sees lines as deeply human, both physically and metaphorically. He has been published and exhibited worldwide and has worked with charities such as Comic Relief, British Red Cross and War Child. Permanent installations of his work can be seen at Tooting Bec Lido, Great Ormond Street and Covent Garden in the UK. His book, Lost Ordinary Magic(published by Little, Brown), looks at simple things in a complicated world.
