Designing the Editorial Experience

About this video

Description

Co-presented by Juliette Cezzar and Sue Apfelbaum

Creating magazines, newspapers, journals, blogs, or any other periodical, print or digital, is as much influenced by time-tested principles as by recent trends and behaviors. How do we design continuous experiences across media as technology continues to evolve? And in this new landscape where information is everywhere at all times, what are the new opportunities for print?

Juliette Cezzar, designer, author, and educator, and Sue Apfelbaum, writer, editor, and content strategist, address those questions and more in their newly published book, Designing the Editorial Experience: A Primer for Print, Web, and Mobile. Featuring 26 interviews and 19 case studies, the book combines the wisdom of experts with visual examples from publications taking dynamic approaches to the contemporary publishing landscape, as well as provides a straightforward set of elements essential to editorial design on any platform. In this webinar, Juliette and Sue will discuss their collaboration, share insights from their own experience and research, and highlight specific publications and applications that exemplify how brand identity and editorial voice can transition across media.

"Designing the Editorial Experience: A Primer for Print, Web and Mobile is an ambitious survey of the converging disciplines of publication design and digital product design. It interviews many of the designers, technologists, writers and editors crafting new, leading edge reading experiences that will set the pace for the next decade of written text—both at long-standing institutions and new startups and publications.” - Khoi Vinh, Subtraction.com
