Laura Prpich RGD designs the 2026 Certification Sticker

With a new year comes new beginnings and a new Certification Sticker for Certified RGDs. Laura Prpich RGD shares her insights and the creative journey involved in designing the RGD's 2026 Sticker.
For 2026, I wanted to make something that felt a little unexpected—something that designers would smile at when it showed up in the mail. The result is a retro pencil mascot (designer) who is equal parts friendly and self-assured, declaring “My Time Is Money.” It’s playful and a bit cheeky, but still gets at the truth of what we do—valuing our craft, our time and the creativity we bring to the table.
The idea came from the phrase “Design Is Not On Sale,” and I ran with that energy — thinking about old-school grocery ads, deli checks and vintage signage that shouted for attention. I liked the contrast between that loud, everyday commercial language and the more thoughtful message behind it. I kept to a two-colour palette for simplicity, but used tints and layering to give it depth. The pencil mascot came early in the process and stuck—he just felt right for the tone I wanted. I also thought it’d be fun to create two different stickers this time, instead of repeating 1 design.
I hope it makes people laugh—or at least nod in agreement. It’s meant to be light-hearted, but true to what being an RGD means: professionalism AND personality. My hope is that it ends up proudly displayed somewhere visible—a small reminder that creative work has value and that it’s okay to have a bit of fun with that message.
