Opportunity

The City of St. Alberta is recruiting an individual to join our Communications and Public Affairs department as a Graphic Designer and Multimedia Coordinator (8-month Term).

Reporting to Supervisor, Design & Multimedia, this position will be responsible for the development and coordination of all elements of graphic design for marketing and communication projects for the City of St. Albert. These elements include, but are not limited to:

  • Designing, developing and producing various graphic projects, focused on but not limited to advertising; displays; brochures; signs / posters; illustrations; newsletters; promotional products and publications; official recognition pieces; and online assets.
  • Coordinating the production and delivery of all final products, whether developed for print or online use, video, audio or another medium.
  • Maintaining the City’s visual identity standards and ensure those standards are followed.
  • Preparing mock-ups for client approval and sign off.
  • Coordinating and negotiating with contractors and vendors for the cost and completion of projects, where required.
  • Working with Purchasing to obtain print quotes, where required.
  • Ensuring quality production in coordination with printers and suppliers.

The individual we are looking for has strong organizational and interpersonal skills, can work at a fast pace with high volumes of work, and enjoys working in a collaborative team environment. This position will draw on a candidate’s ability to multitask, shift gears quickly when needed, meet deadlines and pay close attention to detail and accuracy. Someone with a positive attitude, flexibility and initiative will be a great fit for this position.

Compensation

$64,602 - $79,509 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive flexible benefit package, with the exception of LTD and pension.

Term

This is a term position from September 2024 to approximately May 2025.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or undergraduate degree in Graphic Design or Visual Communication.
  • Strong portfolio that demonstrates expertise in graphic design, including print and digital design
  • At minimum three (3) years of experience working in a graphic design role
  • A strong understanding of typography, layout, hierarchy and other graphic design principles.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including critical thinking, negotiation and educating others on design thinking, process and principles are a major component of this position.
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of various applications and software related to graphic design in a PC environment such as the Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop) as well as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational skills and display diplomacy in dealing with constructive criticism.
  • Other key skills include creative abilities, careful attention to details, flexibility, an interest and desire to keep up to date in a rapidly changing technical environment and the ability to anticipate change.
  • Knowledge of basic video editing and SharePoint would be an asset.

Hours of work

We offer a compressed work schedule of 72 hours bi-weekly (Monday - Friday, 8:00 – 5:00 with a regular day off every two weeks).

Remote work

This position is designated for full-time remote work; however, given the nature of the position’s project related activities, there may be a requirement to attend meetings/events at a City facility from time to time.
