Why do you love creating? sets out to give tangible form to the abstract feeling of creativity, so that creatives feel seen in their passion and others understand what compels people to create. Built from interview responses gathered from students across creative fields, the piece uses smooth, continuous animation to express creativity as a flow rather than a fixed idea.
Two script typefaces — Chopin Script for a clean, overarching narrative voice and the more expressive Adobe Handwriting for personal, individual answers — distinguish the two registers of the piece, while symbolic imagery drawn from the interviewees’ own words (a flower, a match, a file folder) keeps the piece legible to a wider audience. Seamless scene transitions and a rhythm of quick movement and stillness mirror the highs and struggles of the creative process, reinforced by sound design that unifies audio and visuals into one immersive experience. The intended audience is designers, artists and writers, as well as anyone curious about what draws people to create.
