Winning Project: Ancient Forest Alliance Rebrand

Award Sponsor: Jacknife; School: Capilano University, North Vancouver, BC; Educator Support: Ben Frey

Ancient Forest Alliance is a British Columbia environmental organization dedicated to protecting endangered old-growth forests while advocating for a sustainable second-growth forestry industry. This rebrand gives the organization a more recognizable, impactful identity that better engages younger activist audiences while maintaining credibility. The logo simplifies the original tree-focused symbolism into a cleaner, more versatile mark that works across campaigns, merchandise and digital platforms, while the wider visual system draws on the rings of old-growth trees, using circular forms and repeating patterns to symbolize history, age and preservation.

A bold yellow palette attracts attention and communicates both urgency and hope, positioning the organization as modern, action-driven and visually distinct within the environmental sector. The intended audience is British Columbians who care about old-growth forests and sustainable forestry — primarily young adults interested in the outdoors and conservation — as well as policy makers, Indigenous communities involved in land stewardship and sustainability-minded businesses.
