RGD Book Club: Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
Virtual Thursday February 20, 2025 @ 7 PM ETAbout Yumi and the Nightmare Painter
by Brandon Sanderson, Aliya Chen (illustrator)
Yumi comes from a land of gardens, meditation, and spirits, while Painter lives in a world of darkness, technology, and nightmares. When their lives suddenly become intertwined in strange ways, can they put aside their differences and work together to uncover the mysteries of their situation and save each other’s communities from certain disaster?
Why this book?
Painter is a disillusioned artist suffering from white page syndrome. Yumi, a revered rock artist, is confined to a rigorous ritualistic lifestyle. They feel constrained by their roles as essential workers. The novel offers humour, drama, and insight into artists’ struggles, culminating in a thrilling ending that resonates with current issues. Spoiler alert! Brandon Sanderson's fun and clever prose creates a complex universe where human challenges are put in the spotlight. This standalone novel is the perfect entryway to the Cosmere.

About the RGD Book Club
The goal of the RGD's Book Club is to foster community and connection around the love of books. In the past, the format has been focused on inviting authors to discuss their process, with discussions playing a secondary role. We are now switching things up and bringing discussions back to the forefront.
The Book Club will start at 7 PM ET for one hour. We’ll spend the first half hour sharing books and other resources we’ve been loving, and the second half will be focused on a discussion of the book. You don't need to have read the book to join the discussion (however, there may be spoilers!).
