Jr. Graphic Designer (Summer Student)

Alberta Retired Teachers' Association is looking for an enthusiastic Junior Graphic Design student to join our dynamic team. Are you buzzing with ideas and intrigued by masterfully created brands? Reporting to the Manager, Creative Services, this position will take conceptual ideas, create visual representations, and support the organization with design implementations across all business functions.

You will be working with

This position will work closely with ARTA’s team of graphic designers and will support:
• digital asset management,
• production design and typesetting,
• meticulously applying design changes to projects,
• repurposing creative into assorted sizes and formats for print and web,
• checking accuracy and quality of a file before its publication,
• and creating small design projects for the organization.

What you will do

  • Create appropriate marketing materials, included but not limited to, traditional advertising, digital content (including videos, blog posts, social media posts, and other digital media as applicable), flyers, brochures, and exhibit resources.
  • Create, revise, and publish ARTA documents, including fillable PDFs.
  • Support digital tasks and resources required to execute the marketing plan, including social media, on Google, and on the arta.net properties.
  • Develop concepts by hand or with software and correct and/or adjust supplied files and images to mandated specifications and colours.
  • Optimize the mix of audience, content, and media, ensuring these maintain the voice and overall brand of ARTA.
  • Work collaboratively with the marketing team, and various internal divisions and departments.
  • Create resources as required by ARTA partners, Committees, Branches, the Alberta Retired Teachers Charitable Foundation, the CMO and the Chief Executive Officer.

What you will have

  • Pursuing a degree or diploma in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Cloud CC, including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and/or Adobe XD.
  • Interested in learning about printing processes and colour management.
  • Willingness to learn how to apply design fundamentals to various projects.
  • Demonstrated strengths in communication; listening; and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly computer literate with capability in email, MS Office and related business and communication tools.
  • A high level of attention to detail, as well as project and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently on a day-to-day basis, as well as the demeanor needed to work in a team.
  • Desire to continue to grow skill set.
  • Love of design, art, and all things creative!

All ARTA employees are required to be fully immunized against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.

Additional Details

  • Job Type: Junior Graphic Designer (Student) - Summer Contract
  • Timeframe: May to August
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday
  • Work Location: Edmonton, AB
  • Hybrid: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote each week

Salary Range

Salary for this position is $25/hour.
