Project Description

The Renaissance Edition transformed Shopify’s Winter ‘26 product changelog into a scroll-driven gallery of 3D-rendered Renaissance paintings, each anchored to one of 150+ product updates and built to position today’s merchants as modern Renaissance masters equipped with AI tools. Launching globally in December 2025, the work arrived at a pivotal moment when AI was reshaping commerce and Shopify needed to demonstrate creative and technical leadership. AI generated each artwork’s foundations while human artists fine-tuned depth, lighting and character animation; brushstroke-edge transitions guided visitors between sections. Theatre.js gave designers direct control over on-page motion, and texture compression ensured 60fps performance on mobile, where 70% of sessions occurred. Hidden details rewarded exploration: a floating key unlocked a secret graffiti layer, and a shoppable beanie was priced at Leonardo da Vinci’s birth year. The Renaissance Edition drew over 3.5 million sessions—30.5% growth over the previous Edition—generating 260+ press stories across 10 markets and 6.5M+ owned social impressions.
