Project Description

The North Island College Brand Ecosystem transformed a fragmented identity into a cohesive visual language aligned with the college’s strategic and Indigenization plans. The primary objective was to resurface the truth of NIC's identity that had previously lived solely in the hearts and minds of its community members. Through extensive research and consultation, NIC replaced “random acts of marketing” with a unified, design-centred presence.

The institution avoided traditional brand hierarchies to create an interconnected ecosystem of values inspired by the natural systems within the landscape of the 35 First Nations territories it serves. This responsive iconography maintains the established logo while allowing for distinction across the 80,000 km² region. The launch has cultivated and grown brand trust with internal and external audiences alike. NIC rolled out this brand identity publicly with a new, accessible website in 2025, resulting in an increased website engagement rate of 65% and a 20% increase in domestic applications.
