Project Description

Peel Region’s construction signage was redesigned to improve clarity, accessibility and public safety across a fast‑growing region with a high volume of active construction zones. The objective was to create a scalable signage system that communicates critical information quickly and effectively in real‑world conditions, while maintaining strong brand recognition. Design decisions prioritized a communication-first approach, informed by observing how the original signs performed once installed. Visual hierarchy was restructured to ensure key messages were immediately readable at various distances, speeds and lighting conditions.

Layouts were simplified, visual noise reduced and typography refined to follow natural reading patterns. Generous white space and high contrast improved legibility, particularly at night. The redesigned signage received positive feedback from staff and residents, particularly for its improved readability and consistency across projects. The flexible template system streamlined production, reduced revisions and is now applied across multiple construction initiatives, reinforcing the value of a user‑centred approach to civic communication.
