Groundswell approached Field Trip & Co. to create a comprehensive three-part brand identity and design system for Oakham Foundation (formerly the Palin Foundation), Oakham House and the TMU Student Centre following recent organizational name changes. The objective was to express the unique character of these interconnected entities as an “anti-institution institution,” providing students with the resources, support and opportunities they need to build confidence and agency without the barriers of bureaucracy, formality or judgment. Field Trip & Co. developed a flexible, cohesive visual identity inspired by the distinctive architecture of the three connected buildings.
A contemporary glass structure sits alongside a historic heritage house, creating a striking dialogue between past and present. This architectural relationship informed the design approach, particularly the logo system, which uses overlapping forms to symbolize shared spaces, collaboration and the fluid movement of students between the organizations. The colour palette draws inspiration from Risograph printing, connecting the brand to the visual culture of zines, independent publishing and grassroots creative expression. Vibrant yet approachable, the palette reflects the diversity and authenticity of the student community. Together, the identity system creates a strong, recognizable brand that unifies the three.
