Design Victoria 2026
Integrated Award Winner – Rebrand/Refresh
Becoming Design Office
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
Design Victoria, a multidisciplinary design festival connecting Victoria and Vancouver Island’s creative community, entered its fourth year with Becoming returning as design partner. The 2025 identity had built strong recognition on a system of rudimentary geometric shapes and a custom typeface. The refresh had to feel like a natural progression. At the same time, it needed to re-engage an audience spanning architecture, interior design, furniture, lighting and graphic design, alongside a growing international attendee base. The 2025 identity was built as a campaignable platform. Its shapes were deliberately rudimentary, inspired by childhood building blocks.
For 2026, those same forms moved out of the flat plane and into three dimensions. The shapes remained the shapes. The concept remained the concept. What changed was their material presence. Marble, granite and timber were chosen for their resonance with local architecture and interiors, with marble quarried on the island itself. A group of festival participants built a three-dimensional letter D as a meeting point installation, translating the brand’s shapes and materials into a structure of their own design. A visual identity had become common ground, something the community could pick up and build with themselves.
